What’s Up For 2014 Mid-Term Elections?

We are 9 months away from the “mid-term elections”, those elections in which we elect all of the House of Representatives, and a third of the Senate, but not the president. If what is going on is any indication of what’s to come up the road in 9 months, we’re in for a helluva ride! Now, 9 months is a lifetime in terms of politics, but, according to what I see, a) the Democrats have basically given up on winning the House; b) the Dems are equally scared they are going to lose the Senate; c) Obama is about ready to throw in the towel and ride out the remaining three years.

OK…how do I know all of this? And is it really true? Well, let’s look at what’s happening. Henry Waxman (D-California), the bald-headed, glasses-wearing, guy that is always screaming in sound bites (I swear he’s the angriest guy in America), has decided after 30 or 40 years in the House to call it quits. He’s retiring. That says a lot. Because people that have been in the House that long, don’t want to be in the minority. Newly elected reps, who haven’t had a lot of experience are just happy to be there…but once you cross the 20 year mark, especially if you’ve been in the majority, it’s no fun any more. I look for more “high profile” people on the Democratic side to step down between now and say, June.

The DNC is changing it’s focus. Not too long ago, they were all talking about taking back the House because the GOP stepped in dog crap when they shut down the government. Remember that back in October? Nobody else does either! That’s what I mean by 9 months being a lifetime. Anyway, they’re putting their eggs into trying to hold on to the Senate. And the mere fact that Obama is going to use his pen and his phone more in the coming years, tells me, he’s not confident he’s going to have anything to work with on Capitol Hill.

Now…let’s take a look at why all this is happening. It’s nothing the GOP is doing. It’s all because the Dems are stepping on themselves. They’re scared because of Obamacare. They’re losing votes because of it, and will lose a lot of seats because of it. And there’s nothing they can do. There IS something the GOP can do. They can screw it up. If John Boehner (R-OH) decides to push through immigration reform, especially Paul Ryan’s plan, which includes a basic amnesty though it’s not being called that…then the GOP will step in it bigtime. Avoid immigration reform until after the 2014 mid-terms and deal with it next session. That shows Obama has no power, and no guts, and he’s all hot air.

If the GOP in the House tackle immigration, they’re giving the Dems an issue to run on besides Obamacare. The GOP should push their healthcare plan that they released in the Senate the other day, compare it to Obamacare, and get the hell out of the way and let the Dems make fools of themselves. My fear is they won’t. GOP loves to screw it up.

The first big test on whether they’re going to screw it up comes later this month. We’re going to see if the GOP adds a string attached to the debt ceiling bill. What they need to do is come up with something substantial, that will have Democrat support in order to make it fly. Two options are out there. First, go after the Iranian Sanctions as a rider to the debt ceiling and force Obama to veto it because of his “line in the sand” with Congress. Second, attach a rider that does away with the insurance company bailout for Obamacare if they lose money. It’s the most costly thing in the current bill. Obama can’t veto that saying that it changes the law because HE has changed the law already dozens of times.

If the GOP caves and sends a clean debt ceiling bill to the White House, they’ll cave on immigration in the House, and they’ll end up losing when they should win big in November. Mark my words!

Are Obama’s “Executive Orders” Constitutional?

So, Barack Obama comes out and plays small ball at the State of the Union. Not a big surprise. Of course, we could chortle at the time he built upĀ  Obamacare only to get laughed at (it wasn’t a laugh line). We could certainly bring up the gaffes and outright half-truths that he told during the speech, but that would be boring. The main thing any intelligent person would take from the speech was that he was ready to work….with or without Congress (gee….nice to know 5 years into his term, he’s ready to get to work!).

Mike Lee (R-Utah) was grilling Attorney General Eric Holder in a Senate Committee hearing on the legality of what Obama is doing by issuing all of these orders. Now, Lee isn’t just a Johnny-come-lately. His father was a Solicitor General of the United States, and he clerked for Samuel Alito at the Supreme Court. The guy is pretty smart. Anyway, Lee asks Holder what constitutional rights Obama had for all of the Executive Orders he’s written. Holder couldn’t answer him. He couldn’t because he doesn’t have an answer.

Let’s go back in time. Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson came up with a legal test to see whether an Executive Order from a president is legal or not. Basically there are three parts to the test. The first is that the president issues an Executive Order that has the backing of Congress. That’s pretty much a no brainer that it’s legal.

Second, the president issues an order pertaining to a law that Congress hasn’t passed. This is what they would call a “grey area”, and would be open to interpretation.

The last area would be where the president issues an Executive Order that is incompatible with a Congressional Command (or law). Basically, Congress passes a law saying that all Illegal Aliens must be arrested and deported, and the president issues an Executive Order stating that he’s going to arrest all Illegal Aliens, and bring them to ICE headquarters where they’ll be sworn in as citizens. That’s what they would call the most egregious of the three tests and probably would not pass legal muster. Obama has written several Executive Orders in this category, though Holder wouldn’t name any or categorize any of them.

Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Florida) is introducing a bill that would make the Executive Branch explain the reasoning behind every occasion that they have made a decision not to enforce a law that Congress has passed. It’s an interesting law, but has little chance of surviving the Senate even though it could pass the house.

Obama has broken the law. He has lied to the American people. He has not lived up to his oath of office. But in total honesty, it’s better to keep him around, and remind voters what they’re going to get with another Democratic president, than to get rid of him and give Smilin’ Joe Biden the chance at actually doing something.

And with that,

Nope…This Has Nothing To Do With The State Of The Union!

I’m gonna leave the rehash of the State of the Union to the amateurs. I’ll be 100% forthright and honest. It’s because a) it’s already been beat to death, and this hit the internet at 8am; b) every single angle in the 21 hours since it aired has already been covered, and re-covered; and most importantly c) I have an early golf game Wednesday and I’m writing this at 3pm MST on Tuesday…some 4:15 before the speech was given (sorry…I’m a big nut on honesty).

So today, we won’t talk about the State of the Union. We WILL talk about 2016 and why Hillary Clinton won’t make it as a presidential candidate. Let me give you some quotes:

“We’re going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good.”

“It’s time for a new beginning, for an end to government of the few, by the few, and for the few…… And to replace it with shared responsibility, for shared prosperity.”

“(We)…..can’t just let business as usual go on, and that means something has to be taken away from some people.”

“We have to build a political consensus and that requires people to give up a little bit of their own …. in order to create this common ground.”

“I certainly think the free-market has failed.”

“I think it’s time to send a clear message to what has become the most profitable sector in (the) entire economy that they are being watched.”

Hmmm. Has the distinct smell of communism if you ask me. Now, before you start thinking that this was gleaned from her college days 200 years ago, think again. None of it was said prior to 2004. Most of it in the run up to the 2008 election (which she lost in the primary to Bobo Obama).

Let me also take a quick second and thank the source for these quotes. They were compiled from a good friend, and former general manager of a radio station I used to work at. Terrell Metheny, who is retired and living in Arkansas now, is the one that put these together as a quiz on Facebook. Of course, your astute blogger, missed all the questions. But thanks to Terrell!

Now, fast forward to Rand Paul the other day, who was talking about how the GOP should run against the presumed Democratic candidate, Princess Hillary. Rand, as was reported in the National Journal, was quoted as saying of the Princess: “Has she said anything about privacy? She’s been a big proponent of the surveillance state and the NSA.”

OK. So, why do I give you a ton of quotes today? Simply because if you read her quotes, Hillary isn’t who she tries to make herself out to be. Obama did the same thing in 2008. She’s trying to show herself as the voice of reason in a sea of chaos. When, in fact, she’s probably just as far left as Obama is. The woman has very little experience in politics other than being Bill’s wife. She had what? Two or three years experience as a Senator, when she didn’t accomplish anything at all, a failed run at the White House, and a term as
Secretary of State with her only accomplishment to speak of was an attack on a consolate in Benghazi, Libya. And the loss of four American lives that were her responsibility.

It’s early in the game, and she hasn’t even thrown her crown into the ring yet, but you need to understand who she is, and what she stands for. As I said earlier this week…we can stand another 3 years of Bobo Obama, especially if the GOP doesn’t step all over itself between now and November and actually win back the Senate and extend their lead int he House. What we can’t take as a country is to have another person with no management experience as our chief executive for four more years.

A community organizer and a crappy crooked lawyer aren’t exactly resume boosters for the job of second most powerful person in the world. And with that….I’m due on the first tee.

Can America Rebound From Obama’s Incompetence?

America is a pretty resilient nation. We’ve made it through a civil war, two world wars, a monster depression, a monster recession, and about a half dozen really crappy presidents that didn’t deserve to be elected in the first place. The last of those half dozen stinkers is Bobo Obama. How is a guy qualified that has never held a real job outside of community organizer and politician? And that was only because George Soros wanted a puppet to control. Well, he got one.

The question is, can America rebound? The answer is yes. Think back about 35 years ago. Nixon had resigned the presidency. Ford had pardoned him (costing him a shot at being re-elected), and Jimmy Carter was in the White House. Now, Carter may have been a nuclear engineer and have been smart when it came to the Navy, but when it came to being president, the guy was almost a total loser. I saw almost because he had one saving grace. The Camp David Accord between Egypt and Israel (which I think is still in effect today isn’t it?). Other than that, his presidency was all about hostages in Iran, failed rescue attempts, and Billy Beer. Oh….and the fact he didn’t think Poland was communist after having served in the White House for four years! But we survived. America realized the error of it’s ways and elected Ronald Reagan, who, to be honest with you, I didn’t vote for in 1980 because I thought the guy was a war monger. How wrong was I!?

Fast forward to today. Every single president since Carter has had redeeming qualities. Reagan ended the cold war. George HW Bush beat the crap out of Saddam Hussein in the first gulf war. Bill Clinton signed welfare reform legislation. George W Bush dealt with terrorists on 9/11 and did a pretty admirable job. And then we come to Bobo. Yes, I guess you could say, he killed bin Laden. But the whole “bin Laden is dead and Al Qaeda is on the run” thing pretty much blew up in his face. I mean, a four year old could have given the order to kill bin Laden….so it’s not like it required a lot of thought. And Obama even had to go against the wishes of his aide, Valerie Jarrett, who doesn’t know crap from shinola when it comes to politics.

But can America rebound? Of course we can. The only thing this country has to do is realize the mistakes we made in 2008 and 2012. We fell for a guy we thought had all the answers. We found out he had none of the answers. Then we had the chance to bounce his sorry ass to the curb in 2012, but didn’t. Why? Because Mitt Romney made some critical mistakes in his “off the cuff remarks” (remember the 47% of Americans remark?) and of course the blubbering whale of a governor, Chris Christie, who had his loved fest with Bobo so close to the election, because Bobo dropped in on New Jersey after Sandy. That didn’t help (and we should remember that!). No, we should have bounced Obama to the curb, but we didn’t. So now, we’re feeling his wrath. But it’s actually a good thing.

When Americans make mistakes like what we’ve made, we normally rectify them the next chance we get. Princess Hillary needs to take that into consideration before she decides to run. It would be so easy for a neophyte politician like myself to run against her after this idiot in the White House, if the GOP loses in 2016, they oughta consider opening up a car wash and get out of politics. All you have to do to beat Hillary is run against Obama. That’s what Obama did in 2008. He didn’t run against McCain, he ran against George W. Bush. And whomever the candidate is, should be doing the same thing.

Add to that the fact that there is a pretty strong field for the GOP coming along. Christie, Paul Ryan, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, Bobby Jindal, any of whom would make pretty decent presidents (ok….maybe not Christie). Who are the Democrats throwing up? Hillary? And then who do they have? Elizabeth Warren said she isn’t going to run which is probably a good thing for her because with her lying about her resume, she’d probably get bounced before the primaries were finished. There was some guy in Montana or Wyoming that wanted to take on Hillary, but that can’t be a serious run. Yeah, they’re not real deep with quality candidates. And with all that Hillary has shown us of her leadership style as Secretary of State (hello Benghazi???), maybe she should go back and bake Bill some cookies. She’s no leader.

However, IF (and that’s a big IF) America were to elect another incompetent (read that as Hillary) in 2016, it’ll be all over as a nation. You can’t give idiots 12 years to screw up things. They can’t cause any damage in 4 years. They can’t cause a ton of damage in 8. But in 12? Yeah….that’s almost a generation. You can pretty well screw up a country in that time period. We’ll soon know if America has the balls to be brave and do the right thing!

Some Words Of Advice To Obama On Tonight’s Speech (No…REALLY!)

Poor Barack Obama has just been calling the wrong plays at the wrong time lately. He’s screwed up the past three months so bad, people in his own party want nothing to do with him, and it’s easy to figure out why. He has been caught lying to the American people on multiple occasions, and hasn’t really apologized for it. His healthcare rollout has been a disaster, in fact, the law itself has proven to be a boondoggle. So, in bi-partisan spirit, I come to Obama today to prepare him for tonight’s speech. He won’t listen, but that’s ok. I’ll know I at least did my part!

1. Don’t be confrontational. You are the one that has been in the wrong for the past few months. You are the one that needs to apologize to the nation and to Congress, and certainly to your own party. You can’t do that saying if Congress doesn’t go along with you, you’ll do it with a pen and a phone. Doesn’t work. They’ll shut your ass down faster than a bum on a bologna sandwich. Be contrite. Tell them you want to work with them. You’re only one branch of government, and you’re about to lose total control of Congress. Don’t screw this one up too!

2. Don’t laud your accomplishments. You really don’t have any. So, to say that you’re a great leader and the American people love you and you won re-election with a mandate is wrong. You’re an “iffy president” at the very best, and one of the worst at worst. Yes, bin Laden is still dead, but Al Qaeda isn’t on the run anymore. In fact, they’re pretty much running most of the middle east. You haven’t proven to be a very good leader at foreign policy, and your domestic agenda has been riddled with scandal. Don’t make up more crap saying that you’ve saved Billy Bob’s day care in Tuscaloosa. A) We know Billy Bob doesn’t exist and B) Nobody in Tuscaloosa believes you had anything to do with saving that day care center anyway.

3. The time for “grand schemes” is gone. You blew your chance on healthcare. You wanted to have a legacy issue and chose healthcare. It’s turned into a legacy issue all right. But not the way you wanted. So, don’t paint big picture legislation that you would like Congress to tackle this year. You were 0-3 in your grand scheme stuff you wanted a year ago. They did none of it, and you did nothing to lead on any of it. As you say…the time for “small ball” is upon us. Talk about smaller programs that you can do. Forget about immigration (and apologize to the Hispanics at the same time), because you punted on that one. Forget about jobs because you’re sitting on the Keystone XL Pipeline and won’t budge on it, so you’ve got no credibility there. Forget about “Income Inequality” because all it takes is an investigative reporter from a lowly Midwest newspaper to look and see that the income gap between rich and poor has doubled under your administration, and you become more of a clown than you already are.

4. Try to build some trust. You said after you were caught lying about the healthcare stuff that you needed to build trust with the American people. Use tonight’s speech to do just that. Be transparent (that means, be open and honest….it’s something you used in your campaign in 2008, but haven’t done since). Nobody believes a word you say anymore. Every single poll that gets released these days shows that you’re one of the most hated and untrustworthy presidents around. Even Nixon had better numbers than you when he left office. So, you need to get back on the right page. People still like you a little bit though that’s fallen off too. But nobody trusts you and nobody believes you. In order to have any shot at being anything but a four year lame duck, you’ve got to change that. You do that by starting small, and doing the right thing. Maybe in the last three years you can win some trust back. You won’t do it speaking to SEIU audiences at every campaign stop. It’s done through your action.

5. Finally. Smile. I know you’ve had a tough road the last few months. Michelle is ready to leave you, your kids hate you and John Boehner is getting invited on Leno more than you are, but for crying out loud, at least LOOK like you’re having a good time. You won the presidency by play acting, by being something you’re not (a leader). Now’s the time to reach down deep and get that back, at least for an hour. Then you can go back to sulking and looking like you belong in a black panthers’ recruitment poster from the ’60’s.

Carry on Bobo….you’re dismissed (and good luck tonight!).

Let’s Get EXCITED About The State Of The Union! Not!!

Back in the day, people used to get excited to hear what the president was going to say in the State of the Union speech. Of course, it doesn’t have to be a speech, though lately it has been. Most presidents throughout history sent the written text of the State of the Union to Congress, and never showed up in person. It wasn’t until I think FDR (I could be wrong about that), that they started going to Capitol Hill and actually giving the speech.

And, back in the day, people cared about what the president was going to say. We all knew he was going to say that we were in great shape, and he would outline his vision of the future for the country. I think that’s changed, and Peggy Noonan, a former speechwriter that should know, agrees with me. She wrote a great editorial in the Wall Street Journal about this year’s State of the Union. I suggest you go to http://www.wsj.com and check it out.

No, this year is different for a few reasons. First of all, the number one issue hanging over everybody’s head isn’t going to be addressed in detail. Obamacare probably won’t be the defining issue in the speech. Though it certainly should be. I think if Obama were smart, and really gave a crap about the job he’s doing, he’d stand there and apologize to the American people, and to the members of Congress from his party that were cajoled into voting for it, and now face the very real possibility of losing their jobs. He’s not that smart, and he won’t do it. that’s one thing I’ve learned about presidents. They never admit their mistakes, even when they’re as incredibly large as Obamacare.

Another reason, I’m probably not even going to watch his speech this year is, frankly, I can’t believe a word the guy says. I liked my healthcare plan, but couldn’t keep it. I liked my doctor but couldn’t keep him. I see the trainwreck that is Obamacare. I thought he was going to get to the bottom of the IRS Scandal. I thought he was going to have heads rolling at Justice over the AP Scandal and the James Rosen affair. I thought for sure that somebody would get fired over the lack of honesty and forthrightness of Benghazi. At least the ineptitude of Hillary Clinton’s ability to run a foreign policy office. Scandal after scandal, problem after problem, mistake after mistake has happened in the first 60% of this guys term, and he’s lied his way through it all. He has no plan for Syria. He doesn’t know or care what’s going on in Egypt. Israel is no friend to him, and he helped Iran develop the bomb. All the while, telling the American people something different. So, why should I pay any attention to what he has to say tomorrow night? He’s really good at lying through his teeth…and frankly, I value my time a lot more than that.

Bobo Obama has done nothing but talk for the last five years. He has been on constant over-exposure, “go” mode when it comes to talking. I don’t need to hear more of the same, and quite frankly, he’s not going to say anything that he hasn’t whined about and complained about for the past five years. He should just mail it in, because that’s what he’s doing with his presidency. And frankly, I’m tired of it. So, no…I’m not going to be watching tomorrow night. I’m sure there are going to be a lot better programs to watch. Maybe I can catch season two, episode six of Master Chef or something.

Time To Call A Spade A Spade

I’ve never been called politically correct, and I doubt anyone is going to start now. So, with that in mind, it’s time to put all this PC crap the left likes to throw aside, and call it the way it is. Tony Blair just did it in England, and he’s 100% right.

Wars in the 21st century are not going to be fought over political ideology, or the desire to increase a country’s size. It’s going to be fought over religious zealots and their mis-guided extremism. Blair, who wrote an article in The Observer” says that we need to be ready to fight a different kind of war, because this century is about religious extremism. He didn’t say it, I will. Islam has declared war on the rest of the world, and we have to be ready to fight it for what it is, or face the consequences.

There. It’s been said. If you’re Muslim, I’m sorry to have offended you…but open your eyes, take off your burka and take a look around. The problems that exist in the world today aren’t geo-political. They’re religious. And basically it’s Islam versus Christian. Only the Christians are too politically correct to call it that. We like to think there’s good in every religion and that no religion would do that….only extreme zealots. We need to wake up and see this for what it is…a Muslim attempt at a world religion that, by the way, isn’t Christianity.

Now, if you’re so fluid in your religious beliefs that you don’t care what religion you live under, that’s fine. I suggest you convert and get your ass over to the middle east. You’ll feel right at home living in 1100 AD. If not, wake up…that’s the coffee you’re smelling, you better have a quick cup and strap on that helmet and go to war.

Politicians won’t say it because they’re too scared of offending anyone. I frankly, don’t care. Sometimes, when you’re right, you offend someone. I’d like to think that everyone would want to live in peace and harmony and we could all believe that Coke commercial from the 60’s, but it’s fairly evident to me that’s been proven wrong.

We like to believe we have “freedom of religion” in this country. Or freedom “from” religion if you are taking the founding fathers literally. Either way, we believe that as long as you attach the label “religion” to something, it’s ok to do what it professes. That’s ok when you have a bunch of religions that only want to worship their God, and will leave everyone else alone. But that’s not what’s happening here. What happens when you have a religion that wants to wipe out the rest of the religions? Are you giving them freedom to do that?

I’m NOT saying that every Muslim is bad. Not in the least. In fact, I’d go so far as to say that most are good, upstanding people. But, if you’ve read the Koran, you can obviously get where they are coming from. And, if you take a look at their madrasas, their imams, their more radical elements, you reach the conclusion that it’s you and me in the gun sights. Call it what you will, they’re calling it a holy war. You better too.

So, it’s time for the western world to make a decision. Either realize you’re in a holy war you didn’t start, don’t want to fight, but need to win in order to survive with your way of life intact, or pick some more daisies, and paint the sky rose-colored where everything and everyone loves each other. Sorry gang. Love didn’t keep Captain & Tenille together, and it ain’t gonna keep us together with the Muslim extremists. Do what you have to do and get on with life. And with that,

Carry on world….you’re dismissed.
