As if Hillary Clinton didn’t have enough troubles already! She’s got the email scandal and the server scandal. She’s got the FBI sniffing up the rear ends of Cheryl Mills and Huma Abedin, and now it appears, the Arkansas Princess herself. It looks like someone will be wearing an orange pant-suit before all of this is over. We’ve seen Hillary stumble and bumble her way through a campaign that was supposed to be, by all definitions of the word, a coronation to the throne for her highness. Instead, Hillary’s inept political savvy has left her wallowing. She’s committed gaffe upon gaffe. She’s stonewalled the press at every turn. She’s re-invented herself more often than the Ford Pinto, with about the same results. And now, after the “Summer of Bernie”, it looks like it’s all crashing down.
That is, if you believe in numbers.
Bernie Sanders came within $2 million in fundraising of Clinton in the third quarter. That means that with a little ground game in place, few volunteers and even fewer paid staff, this guy from Vermont who’s left of everybody including Obama, has just equaled someone who has a terrific ground game in place; has millions of supporters volunteering; and has the highest paid staff in history helping her at every turn. And while Hillary raised a grand total of $28 million in the third quarter, she did so with 58 fundraising events. Sanders, by the way, raised $26 million with a grand total of 7. Sanders has $25 million in the bank. Hillary didn’t release that information, which leads one to believe she doesn’t have much saved up. And that is going to spell trouble.
Yes, Hillary Clinton may have the best ground game in political history all lined up. But if you can’t spend the millions you need to on advertising, all of the volunteers and the highly paid staff in the world won’t help. And right now, she’s facing a really tough task of raising money when a) nobody believes a word she’s saying; b) not many think she can still win the nomination and c) fewer still think she can beat whichever Republican candidate is thrown at her. In other words, she’s in trouble.
What the numbers don’t tell you is that Hillary embarked on a multi-state campaign for cash in the final days of September that actually probably brought her past Bernie in terms of dollars raised. She had a slew of events that had she not had them, she would have been in trouble. Figure it out…she raised $28 million with 58 events. Forgetting that the internet probably helped out in that total, that comes out to $482,759.62 per event on average. That’s about what she gets for a 40 minute speech. In other words, what we are seeing in the media is true. Hillary isn’t drawing large crowds, Sanders is. Hillary isn’t raking in the dough, Sanders is (Sanders by the way, raised money from 1.3 million donors on the internet).
End analysis? Hillary is going to run into the same problem that Rick Perry and Scott Walker ran into. Her campaign staff is too bloated, and her bills will eat her alive unless she gets more cash from somewhere. And if Joe Biden jumps into the ring (which isn’t going to happen before the first debate), that cash dries up from Hillary’s war chest. And that will be fun to watch.
Carry on world…you’re dismissed!
