I’m here to reiterate a remark I made about three months ago. It’s something that in that time period, I could have swept under a rug, buried in the sand, tried to walk back, ignore that I ever said it. But alas…Desert Musings is all about the truth and once out there, the truth never changes. So here we go again:
Hillary Clinton will NOT be the Democratic nominee for president.
Oh, I don’t believe it’s going to be the email scandal the does her in. I don’t think it’s the private server. I don’t think it’s the lies. I don’t think it’s the untrustworthiness. I don’t think that at all. I think personally, it’s the old “death by a thousand cuts”. She’s just got way too many things going against her to be nominated for the toughest to get job in the country. And as Mitt Romney and dozens of others will tell you, the stars all have to line up just right for you to get the job, regardless how good you are or how persuasive you’ve been (and Hillary has been neither).
No…Hillary Clinton won’t be realizing her dream next year. That you can take to the bank. OK, so how do I know? Have I gotten too much Desert Dust in this addled-brain of mine? Too much cactus juice? Actually, its simple math. Here are my reasons.
First, you can’t win when you’ve got dark clouds overhead. Nobody wants to back a loser, and right now, Hillary Clinton looks like a loser. She’s slipping in the polls, she’s making huge gaffes every time she opens her mouth, and she’s just being a terrible candidate. You can get away with that as long as you’re not running against anybody…but Bernie Sanders just got 20,000 people to show up at a rally in Boston this weekend. Hillary’s crowds are measured in the low hundreds. She has trouble filling a Dunkin Donuts, much less a stadium.
Second, there’s Joe Biden. CBS News is reporting that he’s leaning toward getting in the race and it may take place sometime this week. That is terrible news for the Clinton camp. They feel that can handle Sanders. They’re not so sure they’re going to be able to deal with Biden AND Sanders. That may be enough to swamp their boat.
Third, money talks, and Hillary’s is walking. When the third quarter numbers came out, most of the political world was downright shocked to see that Bernie Sanders, the guy that flies commercial planes (coach, no less), raised only $2 million less than Hillary, who’s flying around the country in a private jet. Bernie has as much money in the bank as she does. And her burn rate is ten times what his is. If she loses donors to Biden, she loses.
Even the “endorsers” are backing away. The Teamsters and the UAW aren’t going to decide just yet whom to throw their massive war-chests behind. And the Firefighters’ Union is balking at backing Hillary. Oh, she’s got a couple of unions, but SEIU isn’t one of them, and the teachers’ union that backed her is getting all sorts of flack for doing so this early.
Fifth, she still has the scandals to deal with, and every day that passes it looks more and more like the FBI is investigating her as well as Huma Abedin and Cheryl Mills on criminal charges. We’ve never elected (or even run a major political candidate) that’s wearing stripes!
Finally, Barack Obama seems to have chilled on Hillary. When she came out against him last week on his Syria policy, Obama’s remarks that “running for president is a lot different than BEING president” seemed to be a slap at her credibility, as if she needed that.
Anyone still think she’s going to win the nomination? I’ve got more!
Carry on world…you’re dismissed!
