So, Hillary Clinton survived the 11 hour ordeal of testifying before the House Benghazi Select Committee. The Democrats are all excited that she survived (though as I understand it, she had several coughing fits, and even needed some sort of injection in the middle of it???). The Republicans are now questioning their strategy (once again) of whether or not this should have been done in public or behind closed doors. So who were the real winners here?
Actually, I don’t think there were any.
Hillary is all smiles because she can come out and say now, “I’ve spent 11 hours testifying before this Select Committee, and I’ve got nothing further to say about the emails, Benghazi, or any of it.” And she will. But will the American people buy it? I doubt it. She thinks she won, and that’s great for her. I don’t think she did.
The GOP thinks they won because they’ve come up with several dozen lies and inconsistencies in her testimony between now and when she testified the last time a few years back. Her story seems to “evolve” like her politics over time…like it’s a living, breathing document…and for that the Republicans are going to be able to use it against her.
And then you’ve got the hidden card in all of this that could be the most damning to either side. The FBI. As James Comey has testified before congress, he’s not about to violate the long-standing FBI policy of commenting one way or the other on their investigation while it’s going on, and that’s as it should be. But even to the casual observer, Hillary told several lies during her testimony…and if the FBI now wants to add charges of misleading congress and perjury to whatever it is they are coming up with, they’ve got plenty of ammunition.
It’s actually the FBI’s ballgame now. They have the email servers. They know that there were classified documents on that server. They know Hillary’s March 10th comments at the United Nations were false. They know that her comments since then about not having classified documents on the server at the point they were received or sent was also false. The mere fact those documents were on the server violates the Espionage Act and makes her complicit for her not protecting classified documents…and what she is telling the public is an entirely different story than what her attorneys would be telling a judge.
So, if the FBI comes out and says that Hillary broke the law, or she gets charged with perjury or misleading congress, both of which are felonies, it’s game over for Hillary regardless if Loretta Lynch decides to proceed with prosecuting the case. If the FBI comes out and says they found nothing after an exhaustive search that would be illegal (which would be a stretch from the sounds of it), the GOP have just lost their major weapon against Hillary in her bid to become president.
The ball is in the FBI’s court now. The question is, can they be swayed by Bobo Obama?
Carry on world…you’re dismissed!
