Ben Carson has done the unthinkable. Well, ok. It’s the unthinkable according to Donald Trump. Ben Carson, in a new national poll released by NBC/Wall Street Journal, has overtaken Donald Trump. It’s not just that he’s overtaken Trump. It’s that he’s overtaken Trump and done so outside of the margin of error…which means that for all intents and purposes, all of the hype in Iowa about Ben Carson winning the state and leading The Donald, is probably true.
Of course, Trump isn’t about to cave and go away any time soon. He’s willing to fight it out and spend more of his money (not that he’s had to spend a lot of it already!) to re-gain the top spot. And while I will say it’s usually rare for a front-runner in a GOP primary to lose the top spot and then regain it, I am smart enough to realize this year isn’t like most years and anything can happen. I’ve already strapped in for a wild ride.
Trump came out with the statement that Ben Carson doesn’t have the temperament to be president. Now, let’s examine that for a moment. You have Trump, whom I assume believes he DOES have the temperament to be president, being bombastic, loud-mouthed, and brash, as he always is. And he’s saying that the mild-mannered, well-spoken, well-thought out words of Ben Carson how he doesn’t have the temperament? Am I missing something here or are we living in an alternate reality like in Back To The Future?
If anything, I would have to assert at this point, that Ben Carson is actually acting a lot MORE presidential than Trump is. I would have to say that Jeb Bush, for all his troubles is acting more presidential than Donald Trump is. But isn’t that why Trump is in the lead….er….WAS in the lead up until this point? Weren’t the American voters (at least the Republicans), tired of the same old leadership at the top, and ready to shake things up? That’s what I thought the whole “outsider movement” was about. The Donald Trump, Carly Fiorina, Ben Carson trilogy, with no prior political experience was exactly what the electorate wanted!
So, maybe Trump has something. Frankly, I don’t know if I could take four years, or certainly eight years of Donald Trump on the evening news every night. Hell, I could barely get through 13 weeks of The Celebrity Apprentice! As I said, I think it was yesterday, we need to start paring the field. We need to start getting a little more selective as to whom are involved in these debates (and that’s a whole other issue!), and start figuring out which of these folks is going to represent the GOP come next year.
My feeling is that yes, it will shake itself out…but I guess I’m too anxious. And as for Trump, we all thought he’d be gone by now. We all thought he’d be back in Trump Tower getting ready for another reality TV show about himself. Because, like the GEICO ads, that’s what he does. He doesn’t run for president.
Carry on world…you’re dismissed!
