Well, the short answer is yes. In case you missed it or were busy watching college football yesterday, Donald Trump was commenting on a New York Times article at a rally in Pennsylvania. He went off-script (which is usually never good), and pretty much gave Hillary the campaign with a 25 minute diatribe, when he was supposed to be reading a nine sentence teleprompter.
What caused all of this? The New York Times received an anonymous tax return from Trump from 1995. In it, Trump takes a $916 million loss which allows him to escape paying taxes for 18 years (which basically is from 1995 through 2013). Trump was so mad about the leak that he rambled on incoherently for 25 minutes, talking about how Hillary Clinton wasn’t loyal to her husband, he mocked her falling into the van during the 9/11 ceremony, called her every name in the book, and wondered whether he would have been better off doing another season of Celebrity Apprentice as opposed to running for president.
The meltdown obviously is going to fuel everything that Hillary has been saying about him over the past six months or so; that he’s unfit for office, that he doesn’t have the temperament to have his finger on the nuclear bombs, and that he’s off the rails. After witnessing a video of this tirade, she just may be right.
Frankly, I was astonished. The crowd was astonished. Here is a guy that was only a few weeks away from pulling off the biggest upset in the last 200 years in political history, and he threw it all away. Now, I know his rants haven’t hurt him in the past, but I cannot for the life of me understand how this is going to go unnoticed, and help him. If I were Steve Bannon and Kellyanne Conway (his top campaign managers), I think I’d be slinking away right now. This display was inexcusable.
The one thing I’ve railed about Donald Trump for months has been shooting his mouth off when he should stick to prepared speeches. He gets off message, and has absolutely zero political insight when it comes to campaigning. Nobody, for instance, takes a little referral of calling a former Miss Universe winner a “pig”, as Hillary did toward the end of the debate Monday night, and escalates it into a week-long story. That isn’t politics. That’s insanity. Frankly, I had been leaning toward voting for Donald Trump, because I can’t see a Hillary Clinton presidency doing anything but destroying our country. After this romp through Pennsylvania, I can’t see pulling the lever for him. And that takes an awful lot!
To be honest with you, I’m disgusted, I’m disappointed, and I’m scared for our country. Hillary Clinton is pretty much everything Trump says she is, and I don’t disagree with him on calling her out on that stuff. But he has shown that he has no class, he has no deportment, and he has no “presidential temperament”. That’s ok when you’re dealing with domestic issues, but when you’re dealing with international leaders, who already are looking at us as a joke thanks to Bobo Obama, that’s going a step too far.
As much as I enjoy presidential politics, I frankly have to either vote for someone like Gary Johnson, or sit this one out. Both options sicken me to the core.
Carry on world…you’re dismissed!
