Writers’ block happens to everyone. Ask anyone that writes books, or articles, or a blog, and they’ll tell you that there are instances when the brain just doesn’t come up with anything to write about. And I can tell you first hand, it’s the same in the news game. Newscasters, 24/7 cable news channels, and journalists have the same problem.
In fact, they’re having it right now.
How do you make a transition from Obama to Trump sound interesting and exciting for two full months? I mean, you’ve got Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s in there to help a little bit, not to mention all the college football bowl games, but there’s only so much fluff you can tolerate. And these guys, one week into the Trump election, have run out of stuff to say about it.
I was watching several channels this week in which the lead story on all of them was how effective Trump was at naming his cabinet versus other presidents. Do we REALLY care about this? I mean, yes, we care who his Secretary of State, and Secretary of Defense are. We care about the HHS Secretary and the Attorney General. But for crying out loud, do we really NEED to see play-by-play coverage of every single person Trump is considering for every single one of the 4,000 appointments he’s making? I’m surprised I wasn’t on the list. Oh, wait. I wasn’t a Trump supporter. Never mind.
Can you believe for a second that there wasn’t a bigger news story out there? Somewhere in the world, there had to be something that trumped (no pun intended) this lead on all of these networks. I’m amazed at how idiotic it is getting. The election is over. Can the Democrats please stop crying and get back to doing what they do best….oh…wait…they’re doing it. Well, can the Republicans stop celebrating and get back to doing what they do best…oh wait…they’re not celebrating…they are kissing Trump’s ass and apologizing for not supporting him in the first place. Well, can we all just put the election on the back burner and talk about something else for a while? Oh…wait…I’m still talking about the election, aren’t I . Never mind.
See how tough it is when you are tuned in to politics to sit through this period? You hunger for these elections every four years, and then when it’s over, it’s like 10 minutes after all the presents are opened on Christmas morning. You look around at the mess of wrapping paper on the floor and realize you’ve got to clean it up. And that bums you out. So you become bored and morose. And you don’t know what you’re supposed to do next. And that is EXACTLY what the news anchors and the media are going through right now.
So, let’s all get together and hug a media person. Tell them it’s alright. It’ll pass. There WILL be better days ahead. The inauguration is just 62 days away and counting, and they can get back to bashing Trump then. And the rest of us? Ah….never mind!
Carry on world…you’re dismissed!
