The inauguration of Donald J. Trump as the 45th President of the United States is over, and it’s time to get to work. That said, just a couple of thoughts about the inauguration…and no, I didn’t watch the whole thing. I watched through Trump’s speech, having too many fires to put out here in the desert (burning cacti don’t smell all that great!).
The mainstream snowflake networks (I happened to be watching ABC) were aghast at Trump’s speech. Cokie Roberts thought it was terrible. That’s ok, Cokie. I really don’t care what you think. Report the news and leave the thinking to those of us with a brain! As I switched around to CNN, MSNBC, CBS, and the like, I found the same patter. Apparently, the mainstream snowflakes don’t think too highly of what’s going to be taking place in the next few days, even though 56% of Americans do. And it’s not up to Donald Trump, or those of us in the majority to change. It’s up to the networks to change. THEY need to get to work, just like the Trump administration needs to get to work.
I have heard the first thing Trump was going to do is do away with the individual mandate on Obamacare. That is a very nice start. While most of the country that realizes the importance of insurance, especially those of us that aren’t on Medicare yet and don’t want to have hundred thousand dollar medical bills. We will continue to have insurance. This of course, is for that 25 or 26 year old that is living on his or her own that feels healthy, and doesn’t want to “waste money” on insurance. They’d rather travel the country or buy a new Xbox. I get it.
There are a lot of things that Trump needs to do. He already has stricken the words “climate change” from all federal documents. The reason for that is simple. While his predecessor thought it was super important to blame mankind for the climate changing, Trump realizes the inconvenient truth that climates change…it’s what they do. And mankind may play a small part in it, but overall, it’s the earth itself that changes the climate on a cyclical basis. It’s going to be fun to watch this one play out over the next few years as scientists all over the world start changing their tune in order to continue to get federal grant money.
Then there is the tax code overhaul. It won’t be in time for this year, but it will be welcome whenever it occurs. And immigration reform, starting with securing the southern border. As someone that lives on the border, I can tell you firsthand that is welcome. I don’t mind our friends from Central and South America emigrating here…just do it legally. And if you don’t, you SHOULD be deported. That’s the law.
Trump is off to a good start. He also needs to make sure he nominates an acceptable candidate to replace Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court. And, he has his work cut out for him on erasing all of the billions and billions of executive orders left by his predecessor. Good luck, Donald. You’ll need it!
Carry on world…you’re dismissed!
