And The Winner Is…

Donald Trump selected his first of what could be two or more Supreme Court Justice selections last night in a live, televised event, and it surprised practically nobody. The man that loves theater and drama for drama’s sake chose Neil Gorsuch, a 49 year old federal judge that sits on the 10th US Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver. There should be nobody complaining about Gorsuch as a nominee because he has an impeccable record, is well-liked on both sides of the aisle being confirmed for the federal bench unanimously in 2006, and is one of the smartest justices we’ve had on the high court in decades, with an educational background to back that up. By the way, Gorsuch graduated in the same law school class at Harvard as Bobo Obama…in fact, he graduated much higher up the list. I will say this…you have to go back to Antonin Scalia’s nomination on the high court to find the last white male that got a seat at that party!

Of course, the Democrats are going to fight tooth and nail to keep him from the bench.

The main reason, at least what I believe is going to be the main reason is the Mitch McConnell move about a year ago when Obama nominated Merit Garland for the high court to replace the late Antonin Scalia, and McConnell blocked the move by not holding hearings. There was, by the way, plenty of precedent to make the move McConnell made. But it upset the snowflakes on Capitol Hill, and they will remember it when it comes time to confirm the appointment of Gorsuch.

This is what politics in DC has sunk to. What is amazing is that in three short weeks, the Democrats have managed to take over the Republicans as the most hated group in Washington. They are now the group that blocks and slows down the process. If they end up shutting down the government, the Democrats will be the ones to blame, not the Republicans. And in this particular instance, with what looks to be a solid majority of Americans behind the Gorsuch move, any Democrat fight (they approved him unanimously to the federal bench just eleven years ago!), would be seen as blocking the business of the congress, not a good thing in the eyes of the public.

And so we are at our first Supreme Court appointment. I’ll give Donald Trump this…he doesn’t mess around. In three short weeks, he’s green-lighted the Keystone XL Pipeline, and the Dakota Access Pipeline; he’s implemented a postponement in travel to the US by refugees from seven countries; he’s started to dismantle Obamacare; he’s signed an executive order to start building the wall on the southern border; and he’s nominated a Supreme Court justice. Oh…I don’t believe he’s played one round of golf yet either! It’s almost amazing considering the pace his predecessor started out at was so slow and plodding. If Trump’s next Supreme Court pick is anything like his first, I think he’s going to be a shoo-in for a second term.

The only thing standing in his way so far is Chuck Schumer and his crocodile tears. Really, Chuck…it’s such a played ploy. Don’t you guys have anything newer in your playbook than that?

Carry on world…you’re dismissed!
