The House of Representatives, citing an article in Politico that said the Obama Administration had, in trying to win support for a nuclear deal and prisoner swap with Tehran last year, undermined an ambitious U.S. counter proliferation effort to thwart Iranian weapons trafficking networks. This follows a call by 13 Republican Senators to look into whether the Obama White House misled the American public with its negotiations with Tehran over the Iranian Arms Deal, and jeopardized national security because of it.
First of all, let’s agree on one thing. The Obama Administration certainly misled the American public on the Iran Deal so Bobo could have a foreign policy “victory” that he could hang his legacy on. That much I think both sides of the aisle have already agreed on. Now, as to whether it was an undermining factor in America’s national security is up for debate. My hunch is that anytime you have a president that lies to the American people about something, and then does something for their own selfish interests, you are putting national security second and your own hide first. That is wrong, and yes, it has happened on both sides of the aisle in the past. It doesn’t make it any more right or any more wrong. It’s always wrong.
Second, let’s look at what the Republicans in Congress are doing here. They are in the midst of a heated debate to repeal and replace Obamacare. It has already passed the House, but not the Senate, and from all indications I’ve seen, whatever the Senate comes up with will be markedly different, meaning that the two sides will have to form a conference committee to iron out the differences…and from what I’m hearing, that won’t be easy.
My point here is that the Republicans in Congress are getting ready to get on a very slippery slope that they shouldn’t get on. You’ve got Obamacare to take care of and get rid of. You’ve got Tax Reform that they want to tackle yet this year. You’ve still got the immigration problem out there unsolved. And you have North Korea that you’re going to have to deal with at some point in the future. Who in hell has time to worry about what a has-been president that is 100% irrelevant did with an arms deal with Iran that Trump can sweep under the rug any time he wants? He doesn’t even need congressional approval to do it.
The country has much bigger fish to fry at this point, and frankly, I’m not so sure the GOP has the cajones to get the job done. They haven’t proven themselves to be great leaders in congress so far, and I wonder how they can achieve the role of “statesmen” if they can’t find their rear ends with both hands. It took the Democrats a full year of hand wringing to get Obamacare passed. The hearings, the writing, the re-writing, the cajoling of the members to get everyone on board…that took a whole year, and it was the worst bill ever written in congress. How in hell does the GOP think they can do a better job in five or six months? Stick to what you have to do and stop worrying about Obama. The guy is dead and you can’t do anything but slap his wrists anyway.
Carry on world…you’re dismissed
