Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow (D) is about to lose her job if a poll by The Trafalgar Group is correct. The longtime US Senator from Michigan is up for reelection next year, and is one of the senators that will be vulnerable because even though she is a Democrat, her state was carried (pretty handedly) by Donald Trump last November.
Her rival? I kid you not…it’s Kid Rock.
Delphi Analytica also showed last week that if Robert James Ritchie (Kid Rock’s REAL name) were to hold his 20 plus point lead in the GOP primary, he would also kick Stabenow to the curb in the general. Now, I’m fully aware that a lot can happen in a year. Hell, the year before the general election last November, no one in their right mind, except maybe Ann Coulter, predicted that Donald Trump would beat Hillary Clinton! And anything can happen overnight, much less in a full 16 months!
But still, to see that Debbie Stabenow is in trouble is interesting. It doesn’t bode at all well for the Democrat party that an upstart rap artist from Detroit is about to knock off a legitimate politician for the United States Senate. Hell, this is akin to Gopher from the Love Boat winning a House seat from Iowa… or even a reality TV star who once hosted The Apprentice winning the White House. It just doesn’t happen!
Have we as a nation reached the point that celebrities now are going to be able to move over to the political world en masse? Can you imagine a US Senate with the likes of Kid Rock, Ted Nugent, and Bret Michaels? And they are all members of the Republican side? I think that’s a sign of the Apocalypse!
What this does show is two things. First off, America is fed up with politics as usual and is trying to “drain the swamp” themselves by putting people that they don’t think know anything about politics into power. That’ll work for a while, as long as EVERYBODY is replaced. You can’t have the power base of the Mitch McConnell’s, the Chuck Schumer’s and Nancy Pelosi’s and the Paul Ryan’s of the world still in power and change anything. You’ve got to get rid of everybody and start fresh. Maybe that’s what the voters of Michigan are trying to do. I mean, let’s face it…Michigan is not the most conservative place in the Midwest, much the country!
The second thing that this shows is that the days of becoming a politician at the local level, and as a career choice, moving to the state house and then to the federal government are over. The Founding Fathers never intended that to happen. What they intended to happen was for the smartest of us to volunteer their time to serve the country for a short time, and then go home, back to whatever they were doing. They didn’t believe in paying out pensions, or lifetime insurance benefits or any of the garbage today’s political class gets.
It tells me one thing…if you’re in college majoring in Poli-Sci, you’re in the wrong field.
Carry on world…you’re dismissed!
