Hillary To Run in 2020?

Well, according to Salon Magazine, that’s what they think she should do. I had to stop laughing and coughing long enough to make sure they were talking about the presidency.

Here is a woman that is so frail right now she needs help to get into and out of her SUV. She can’t confidently walk onto stage at her book signings and speeches, so she goes and sits, and then they let the crowd in. Is that what she’s going to do while she’s campaigning in 2020?

And let’s look past the frailty part. Let’s look at the actual nuanced criminal part. Does Salon think that the crimes against the Constitution are magically going to be forgotten by 2020? Are they anal enough to believe that this woman who has probably broken more laws than 80% of those incarcerated in our jails if the truth be known, actually has the nerve to run for the highest office in the land again? And if she does, will the Democrats bow and kow-tow to her like they did in 2016? Will she be able to fix the primary so she can be a 74 year old windbag again? Or will she be forced to run against real competition…competition in the form of Elizabeth Warren, or Joe Biden (if he’s still alive), or Kamala Harris, or Cory Booker? What about New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo? He’s already made waves about saying he wants to run.

No…Hillary is too frail, carries too much baggage, and will be much too old (she would be 73 when the election rolled around). She can’t keep up with her current speaking arrangement without doctors on call constantly. How is she ever going to fool the American voters into believing she’s healthy enough, smart enough, and talented enough to be president?

Hillary Clinton etched her place in United States history as the worst candidate ever to run for the presidency. And I have said several times, and still do believe it, that Donald Trump, only by virtue of his beating her, was the second worst candidate ever to run for the presidency. Neither of these people have any of the qualifications that are necessary to be a great leader of our nation. Even today, Donald Trump has trouble getting any of his ideas through congress. He couldn’t repeal Obamacare. He hasn’t still be able to get the tax reform through, and they couldn’t even begin to discuss immigration reform.

Hillary Clinton’s ideas were from the 1990’s. She’s so far removed from her prime, to even think for a second that she could entertain the notion to run for president a third time would put her into Harold Stassen mode. No…Hillary Clinton will not be running for president in 2020, regardless what Salon or any other e-zine has to say about it. Won’t happen, take my word for it, bet the house against it, and sleep comfortable at night knowing that the Clinton political machine has a better chance of landing in Leavenworth than in the White House by 2021.

Lauer Fired From Today Show

I went to college with Matt Lauer. I didn’t know him very well. I think I met him a few times, and no, it wasn’t strange to go to college with people that later made a mark in the broadcasting industry. I also went to college with Lori Savitch, whose older sister, Jessica, was making big waves at the time. She was an anchor for a Philadelphia TV station, and later went on to become an anchor on NBC. She was tragically killed in a car crash shortly there after. So, I’m no stranger to the uppity ups in the broadcast industry.

Matt Lauer was fired on Wednesday from his long-time gig on the Today Show. The reason? Inappropriate sexual behavior. Surprised?  I’m not.

“Inappropriate sexual behavior” in the broadcasting industry is kind of like inappropriate sexual behavior in the movie and television industry or in politics. It’s as common as the after work (or sometimes during work) drink. It’s common place. And that’s the point of this piece today. It shouldn’t be.

I really don’t think I ever “sexually abused or harassed” anybody in my career. And I’m not pulling an Al Franken on that one. I just always respected the people I worked with and for. That, and I’ve been happily married the whole time, and I wouldn’t for the life of me do anything to put that relationship in jeopardy. I think the people do engage in that behavior are missing something at home. Either that or they are depraved in some way, shape or form, and don’t tell me those people don’t exist. People like Harvey Weinstein and Bill Clinton are more common than you’d like to believe!

But I was a little shocked to hear about Matt. Like I said, I didn’t know him very well… Ohio University was a decent sized school, and had maybe 15,000 people going there if I remember correctly. And it had one of the better broadcasting schools in the country. That’s why I went. That’s why Matt went, I’m sure.

What bothers me most about what NBC did isn’t the fact that they fired someone who violated company policy. It was that they did it without giving the two hosts, Savanah Guthrie and Hoda any details. All they could do is say he was fired for inappropriate sexual behavior. Now, I get that that NBC probably wanted to protect itself somewhat, but you don’t make an announcement like that with one of your top anchors without some sort of details. It did come out that apparently this had been some sort of ongoing problem with Lauer. That said, NBC, you owe the public more. Either that or we owe you nothing, and we should shut you off. If you want to fire a top talent, that’s your business, and you have that right…but you owe it to the public to tell them more than you did.

And with that, you are probably a little shocked. And by the way…I’m NOT a Matt Lauer fan, and no…I don’t watch the Today Show. I’m not into the “friendly morning TV chat ’em ups”.

“Pocahontas” Upset Over Trump Remark

First and foremost, we need to get one thing clear. I do not under any circumstances think that it’s OK to malign another race, creed, religion, or gender. I think it’s a terrible mis-use of the English language to be slamming others because of those factors. Politics is a different matter. You want to slam someone because of politics, I don’t have a problem with that. But to call people names because of the stuff listed above is out of bounds in my book, and yes…there are some that read this blog and respond to it that have done that in the past. It’s terrible and shows that they really don’t have a very good command of the English language if that’s the only way they know how to argue.

So, it’s with that in mind that I deplore Donald Trump’s calling of Massachusetts’ Senator Elizabeth Warren, “Pocahontas”.

However, I will unequivocally state that she deserves every bit of it. She is a phony and a fake. Not because of her race, creed, religion, or gender. But because she’s a liar. She lied on her applications to several prestigious universities in this country, stating that she was a “Native American”, when in fact, she’s as pure as the driven snow (meaning white). When you want to lie about your background to get ahead, that is just as deplorable as what the president did, in my book. That in and of itself, disqualifies you from any and all chance to comment on what he called her. You’re done, you’re toast, you’re finished, and you have no credibility.

That doesn’t make what Trump said right. In fact, it’s dead wrong. If you don’t like someone’s politics, I get that. I think Elizabeth Warren’s politics are terribly misguided and fraught with some weird thinking on her part. I don’t know the woman well enough to criticize her beyond the fact that she’s a liar, and doesn’t think through her politics very well. I’m sure she thinks she’s a smart person (that we will leave to history), but she has no right to criticize the President of the United States for calling her “Pocahontas”, when SHE was the one that started it by lying about her background in the first place.

Was Trump wrong for doing it in a ceremony honoring Native Americans? Yup…100% wrong. It was classless. But she was way out of bounds for her remarks as well. In fact, she was probably more out of bounds than he was. If she had never lied about her background to further herself, which is rather selfish when you look at it, he never would have or could have called her that. She’d be some no-name liberal Massachusetts Senator that few people would even think to pay attention to.

No, Donald Trump was wrong for calling her a name in his ceremony. Elizabeth Warren is dead wrong for allowing it to happen in the first place. This country needs fewer, not more liars. Haven’t we had enough of them with the Clinton’s?

Can Congressional GOP Win One This Year?

Let’s be real honest here. The Republicans that took back the House and Senate over the past few years haven’t done squat since they got the White House in January. Oh, they’ve tried…but they’re like the Bad News Bears of politics. They can’t seem to get on the same page with anything. And now, with less than a month left before they call it quits for the year, they are going to throw together a “tax reform” package that is going to have the same effect as Obamacare…just to show the American people that heading into an election year, they CAN get the job done.

It’s a HUGE mistake.

Like Obamacare, which actually took over a year to write, re-write and haggle over, passing by a single vote, even though it was detested (and continues to be) by a majority of the American people, the GOP tax cut and reform is going to be squawked at for a very long time. It’s been rushed through both houses of congress because the GOP needs to win. They have spent a year trying to repeal Obamacare, without any success thanks to idiots like Arizona Senator John McCain, who shouldn’t even be in office!

The tax plan isn’t well thought out. The Senate and House versions are not even remotely close, and will need to have major squabbles resolved in committee before going back before the two bodies to have the reconciled bill voted on. Getting that done before Christmas, as Donald Trump wanted is a far cry. And it’s bad politics.

Frankly, the congress should wait. They are losing the “high state tax states” like New York, New Jersey, and California because they are phasing out (at least in the House bill) the deductions for state taxes. That’s a major bone of contention. In the Senate bill, they’ve repealed the individual mandate imposed by Obamacare. That didn’t go over so well in the Senate the first time around, and is one of the more hated parts of Obamacare. But truth be told, they’ve rushed into this. They don’t have a good consensus, and they are going to look like the gang that can’t shoot straight, shooting first and aiming afterwards.

Knowing this though, it doesn’t matter to them. All of the House members face an important election next year, and the Senate was hoping to actually gain seats because a lot of Democrat Senators from states that Donald Trump carried are up for re-election. If the GOP can’t show the American people why they need to pick up 11 seats in the Senate, they are going to be really struggling to get anything done next year. And of course, if the Dems were to take the House, the number one thing on their agenda….no wait….the ONLY thing on their agenda is an impeachment vote for Donald Trump. And while that would likely occur if the Dems took the House next fall, it wouldn’t ending up convicting him because it would take 2/3 of the Senate to convict. It would be just like the Bill Clinton impeachment. It would probably backfire on the Dems, just like it did the GOP.

Getting a REAL tax reform done takes time. The GOP bit off way more than they could chew this year. They haven’t done anything, and to pass something so stupid as what’s in front of them (from either chamber) is foolhardy. Wait till next year guys!

Pelosi To The Rescue!

LATE UPDATE: Sunday, after this blog was written, John Conyers, (D-Mi) stepped down as the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee following allegations that he fired a former staffer for going public on his sexual abuse allegations. Conyers has NOT quit the House, and apparently has no intention to do so, but did step down from his role on the House Judiciary Committee (big deal, right?). An ethics investigation into him continues.

Nancy Pelosi has once again waded into waters that she shouldn’t be near…not because she’s going to drown, but because she shows her ignorance. Let’s delve deeper into one of what I call the “major faults of liberalism”, shall we?

As I said earlier, both sides of the conservative/liberal debate are guilty of this, but liberals have taken it to a whole new level. They love to obfuscate and lie, twist and mangle their words around so that they get their own people off, while doing as much damage to the opposition. Need an example?

Al Franken and John Conyers, both Dems and both uber-liberal have been alleged to have engaged in sexual deviant behavior. Roy Moore, a US Senate candidate in Alabama is also alleged to have been engaged in sexual deviant behavior. But the way Nancy Pelosi treats the two different groups…those already IN congress and those wanting to be, are miles apart.

Roy Moore has been accused by several women of untoward sexual advances that occurred like, 40 years ago. None of the women coming forward have any proof of these advances. They have just made the allegations. And all of the women that have come forward are Democrats. It kind of makes you wonder if there were some ulterior motives here, doesn’t it?

Let’s talk about Al Franken, shall we? Franken says he’s a “warm person”, and likes to hug. Yeah. I’m a warm person and like to hug too, but only my wife. Franken wasn’t “hugging” KABC reporter/personality, Leeann Tweeden. He was fondling her breasts. There IS a slight difference between “hugging” and “fondling”, Al. You’re guilty because we have photographic proof of it. Are you resigning your seat?

Next up, here comes ancient John Conyers, the Democrat congressman from Michigan. Hell, this guy was in congress when I was growing up in Michigan! That was over 50 years ago!!! Conyers recently gave a staffer a $27,000 settlement over a sexual harassment charge. She was fired when the harassment was brought to life. Of course, Conyers admits to paying her off, just not for sexual harassment…he says it was a severance package. Uh huh. And I’ve got the Ambassador Bridge to sell you (look it up).

So, why does Pelosi come to Conyers’ aid? Because she says he’s an “icon”. She says he voted for women’s rights in the past. OH! I get it now. If you vote for women’s rights, then you have earned the right to abuse them? Is that why nobody is clamoring about filing charges against Bill Clinton? Did he at one time vote for women’s rights?

Pelosi is nothing more than an old (and I stress the word old) political hack. She doesn’t care if Conyers is guilty. She cares about losing an “icon” in congress. She doesn’t care if he abused women. She only cares about numbers and her political party. She’ll do anything under the sun to throw someone like Roy Moore under the bus when there isn’t any proof (like she has done with Trump on this Russian collusion crap), but when it is someone from her own party that is guilty, she circles the wagons (like she’s doing with Hillary on this Russian collusion crap). Nancy, you need to go back to San Francisco, and fade into the bay….quickly. You’re a waste of carbon.

Where Is Mueller Headed?

I guess the more important question is, does Robert Mueller KNOW where he’s headed? The latest that I’ve heard from people in the know, as well as the liberal based LA Times is that no…he doesn’t have a clue. It seems this once vaunted lawman, who was feared by criminals, and praised by both the right and the left alike as someone invincible and fair (sound like anybody you know….how ’bout you Jim Comey?), who has now become rather stumbling and bumbling in his tactics.

The latest word on the street is that Robert Mueller had made his mind up where he was going before he even started investigating. That’s from several “unnamed sources” (and we KNOW from CNN, ABC, NBC, and CBS how reliable they can be, right?) that have said that Mueller is shooting first and aiming later. Word is, he is trying to find someone, somewhere, ANYWHERE, that can be found guilty of some sort of wrong doing and given immunity in exchange for damning testimony against anyone in the Trump campaign.

Word also is, he’s having a hard time finding it. And even if he does (which isn’t very likely at this point), he’s going to have a very hard time convincing a Grand Jury that he has enough evidence to convict someone that was above the rank of “volunteer” on the Trump bandwagon. He tried to get Paul Manafort, but that even looks like it’s going to be a Hail Mary.

So, where does Mueller go from here? He’s got to find something on someone after spending millions of taxpayer dollars. The last time someone like this was in charge of an investigation, it was Ken Starr, and he ended up finding a stained blue dress. That was a far cry from what he started out looking for in Whitewater, and cattle futures. But it did afford him the opportunity to provide enough information to the House of Representatives to impeach Clinton on perjury charges. Even though Clinton avoided removal from office (as he should have), he was disbarred, because who really wants a liar for an attorney?

Mueller is going to face the exact same problem that Starr did, except so far, we haven’t seen any real evidence of a stain, a dress, or anyone named Monica, Juanita, Kathleen, or the hundreds of other women Clinton allegedly screwed. If there is something out there, let’s see it. If not, wrap the puppy up and let’s get on with life. But I know the left doesn’t want to see that. Of course, the Republicans would like to put this all behind them as far as Russian Collusion with Trump is concerned and start focusing on Russian Collusion with Hillary, because at least they have real evidence of that happening.

In the end, it’s a circus. In the end, Mueller is just the guy in the top hat, and he’ll wave goodbye to the crowd as they leave the big tent. It’s called politics. And in the end, very few are brought to answer for their misgivings. And that my friends is sad, regardless which side of the fence you sit on!

Give Thanks

You know, this usually isn’t a very well read blog post. I do this every year, but to me it’s important. I know you are very busy, probably, like me, you’ve got a house full of people or you’re traveling somewhere to celebrate Thanksgiving. That’s ok. I write this every year as a reminder to self what I’m thankful for. And to realize why today is my favorite holiday of the year. It’s a time to thank God for all He has given me over the past year. This year I have a lot to be thankful for.

I’m thankful first and foremost for family. I spent 35 years away from my mother because she moved to help her mother when she was sick. And then she stayed in the desert after my Grandmother passed away. I didn’t get to see her nearly enough. Now, I can see her all the time. And I’m very grateful and thankful for that opportunity to make up for lost time.

I’m thankful that both of my kids and their families come out and visit us for a few days and get to spend Thanksgiving with us. That’s quite a haul for both of them, and airfares aren’t cheap. But they’ve been here and it’s become a family tradition. The older I get, the more I enjoy seeing them. I hope that tradition always continues!

I’m very thankful for my wife. She has been the love of my life for over 40 years now. She’s as beautiful today as she was the day I first saw her. I thank God every night that I can call her my wife. I certainly “married up” and don’t deserve her, but I can’t imagine ever not having her by my side. We have really led a blessed life and she has taught me an awful lot throughout our marriage. I only hope I can somehow repay all she’s given me.

I’m grateful and thankful that I’ve been able to volunteer for the past three years in my community. I’ve been able to serve on the Board of Directors for our local Recreation Centers. It’s a pretty large place with eight golf courses, seven recreation centers, five snack shops, two restaurants, two bowling alleys, a 33 acre lake, a dog park, and a 6,000 seat amphitheater. This year I was honored to serve as president. I’m leaving the Board next month, and will miss it because I’ve really enjoyed it. But to be truthful, I’m looking forward to the next chapter of my life.

I’m grateful that I can live in a country like the United States. Oh, I disagree with a lot that goes on here. I disagree with a lot of folks’ thinking and the way they really aren’t as smart as they’d like us to think they are…but there isn’t a better country anywhere in the world. I sometimes wonder why God put me here in the US as opposed to somewhere like Somalia, or Iraq, or China. How lucky I am! I never take that for granted!!!

And I’ve been very thankful for you guys. Everyone that reads these blogs. It started out as just a way for me to rant, and it’s turned out to be something that I enjoy doing more than I ever thought. I really never believed as many people would read this as they do, and I’m really grateful that you do. I’ve met a few of you which has been a true blessing, and have conversed with several more that I know I consider good friends, even though we’ve never met in person. I wish all of you a blessed day today, and hope you can take some time to count your blessings as well.

Thanks for giving me this opportunity each year. It’s cathartic for me, and I need to do it. And now…it’s on to Turkey, and Detroit Lions Football!
